On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, "Hosei University Rooftop Gardening Maintenance Project - The Leading Role of Next Summer versus Beloved Garden at Hosei University Full of Kodawari" was held as a special event of the "22nd Environmental Exhibition" being held at the Hosei University Environmental Center WEBSITE. The event was held as a real event.
The Hosei University Rooftop Gardening Maintenance Project, which is based at the Green Terrace, aims to create a "REAL GARDENER" in FY2021, a "beloved garden at Hosei University" that is a habitat and growing space for trees, plants, birds, butterflies, and other creatures that come to visit the garden.
First, in "The Leader of Next Summer vs. the Beloved Garden at Hosei University, Full of Care", Mr. Enomoto of the Environment Center introduced the history of the project, highlights of the "Green Terrace" with a focus on organisms inhabiting the garden, and characteristics of "flowers that will play the leading role in the flower beds for next summer".
Then, together with the project members, they designed the "flowers that will play the leading role in the flower beds for the coming summer (please look forward to what they planted next summer!)" at the "Green Terrace. The project members then designed the "Green Terrace" with "flowers that will be the mainstay of the flower beds for the coming summer (you will have to wait and see what we planted next summer!)," and planted "nandina," whose dried fruits are used as a cough medicine and whose flowers are at their best in July, "yabukouji," whose name was written as "mountain orchid" in the Manyoshu, and "blackberry," whose harvest is enjoyed from June to August, among others. The "Green Terrace" is a garden that is located in the city's Keio City Park.
The Green Terrace is the only remaining rooftop garden on the Ichigaya Campus. Students participated in the entire process from planning to design, construction, and maintenance of the rooftop garden, which was created on the fourth floor of the Boissonade Tower in 2005.
The next project is scheduled for late November to early December 2021 under the theme of "Season's Greetings versus the beloved garden at Hosei University," based on the wishes of the members. We will announce the details on the Hosei University Environmental Center website when they are finalized.
The "Ekopin" awaits the arrival of the project members as it prepares for the visit.
Mr. Enomoto of the Environmental Center introduces the history of the project, highlights of the garden, and the "flowers that will play the leading role next summer.
Please look forward to "next summer's mainstay!
We planted a sapling of "blackberry," which bears fruit in early summer. They grow almost without pesticides.
Here are the buds of "Rhododendron", which will be in full bloom before GW.
We hope you can enjoy them all the way to the end of the garden. Ekopyon is looking forward to next summer.
