(Undergraduate Student) Application for the Secondary Adoption of JASSO Scholarship for Academic Year 2023

Scholarship Information

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) has announced the information for the second round of scholarships (fall recruitment). If you wish to apply, please check the following and first request an application form from the information request form. You can also pick up the application form at the office.
If you are already a recipient of one of the scholarships offered this time, you do not need to apply (request for information). However, if you wish to apply for a new scholarship in addition to the scholarship for which you have already been selected, please apply.
Please note that international students whose visa status is "College Student" or those who are staying with family members are not eligible for this scholarship.

*If you are a new first-year student who will be admitted in September 2023 and have a "Notice of Determination of Candidates for Adoption as a Scholarship Student for the Academic Year 2023" from your high school, etc., please contact the address below for further information as the procedures are different.

1. scholarship application

(1) New national system of study support (JASSO scholarship + tuition fee reduction/exemption)

This is a government-supported program that allows students to receive both a scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and a tuition fee reduction/exemption.
Regular recruitment is offered twice a year (April and fall) and is available for 1st through 4th year students.
Households eligible for support if applying this fall must be exempt from resident tax in 2023 or equivalent (based on income in 2022).
Please be sure to check the JASSO's College Student Loan Simulator to see if your household qualifies under the income criteria.
In addition, there are other requirements such as academic performance and assets. For details, please refer to "(7) Reference Materials".

(2) JASSO Loan Scholarship (must be returned after graduation)

There are two types of JASSO scholarships: Type 1 (interest-free) and Type 2 (interest-bearing).
Regular recruitment is offered twice a year (April and fall) and is available for 1st through 4th year students.

2. Request for application documents

Please order the application documents from the Request for Documents form. The university will mail the documents to the address you specify. You can also pick them up at the counter.
You can order application documents for either (1), (2), or both.
Please note that you do not need to reapply for scholarships if you are already using scholarships (1) or (2).

( If you apply at the counter, please submit your request by the time the counter opens on September 29, 2023.
      (Final deadline) Tuesday, October 31, 2023, 3:00 p.m. (For inquiries at the counter, until the counter opens on October 31, 2023 )
*If you have missed the final deadline, please use the application period for Spring 2024.

3. Process after requesting documents (see p. 4 of the Scholarship Guidebook)

In case of mailing, application documents will be mailed in order to the address you entered in the information request form. It may take a few days for them to arrive. If you do not receive them after one week, please contact us at "8. Inquiries" below.

Please check the documents carefully and prepare the necessary documents for application. If you do not have all the necessary documents by the submission deadline, please contact us in advance at "8.

The above documents will be mailed to those who have requested them (except for the investigation form).
There are also other documents to be submitted only by applicable applicants. For details, please refer to the application documents you will receive upon request.

5. Submission of Application Documents (by mail or over the counter)

Mailing deadline: <For those who requested documents by September 29> October 6 (Fri.) [strictly enforced].
     <Monday, November 6 (strictly observed) for those who requested by October 31.

If you send by mail, the postmark must be postmarked on the same day.
*Please make sure to submit the required documents by the submission deadline corresponding to the period for requesting information materials.

Please make sure that the documents are complete and submitted as soon as possible.

Please be sure to make a photocopy of the original for your own records before submitting the original to the University.
For those who wish to apply for the scholarship Tuition Fee Reduction and Exemption Application Form Please be sure to fill in all the necessary information.
For those who wish to apply for the scholarship Study Plan Correction fluid and correction tape are not allowed. Please make any corrections with a double line and affix a correction seal.
Only applicable applicants who wish to apply for the benefit scholarship [Benefit Form 35]
Notification of Change of Commuting Mode (commuting away from home)

Please submit this document together with a copy of the "Lease Agreement".
If it is unclear on the contract that the applicant is residing in the residence

(For applicants who wish to apply for a loan scholarship, please submit the following documents only if applicable (for applicants who appoint a guarantor who is 65 years of age or older or who is not a fourth-degree relative). Documents certifying the guarantor's assets, etc. (photocopies acceptable) If the guarantor is outside the requirements of JASSO, the guarantor must meet the asset requirements.
