What kind of study do you think "psychology" is? First of all, what you study at university is "academic study," not psychological games or fortune-telling. Psychology is to collect and analyze objective data using scientific methods (experiments, observations, surveys, tests, interviews, etc.) in order to clarify something invisible and untouchable called "the mind.
The primary philosophy of the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Letters at Hosei University is to understand the mechanisms of the human "mind. The field of cognitive systems clarifies the mechanisms by which we perceive the external world and act appropriately.
The second philosophy is to explore the developmental process of the "mind. Understanding the developmental process leads us to understanding ourselves. This is the field of developmental systems.
The third philosophy is to seek ways to make your own lives richer and more meaningful by deepening your understanding of the "mind. Psychology is not only useful for people with "mental illnesses," but also brings hints to help healthy people in society as a whole lead better lives.
In addition, psychology is a branch of cognitive science. Our department has realized a curriculum that allows students to collaborate with brain science, linguistics, philosophy, and information science. We encourage you to study in an interdisciplinary manner.

Ms. Ai Kogata graduated from the Department of Psychology in 2002
Kororo ET Center: Rehabilitation and Education Instructor
My motivation for applying to this university was my single-minded desire to study psychology. In fact, when I studied psychology, I found that some aspects of psychology were different from what I had imagined, but I was attracted to the scientific aspect of psychology and decided that I wanted to study it further, so I went on to graduate school. In the Department of Psychology at this university, I was able to study various fields of psychology, which allowed me to think carefully about what I was interested in. Through this process, I became interested in developmental psychology, which studies the psychology of children, and came to think that I would like to work with autistic people. I am now working at the job I want, and the perspective I developed during my college days of looking at autism from a scientific perspective is useful in my daily work.

Yusuke Tamaru, 2007 graduate of Department of Psychology
Major in Clinical Psychology, Graduate School of Social Well-being Studies, Hosei University
What kind of place is a university? Whatever department or faculty you choose, I think this is something you should think about at least once before entering a university. University is a place where you are free and can gain many valuable experiences depending on your choice. In addition, the Department of Psychology offers many opportunities to look at yourself objectively, and I believe that your interests and what you want to do in the future will change during your time at the university. I was one of those students, and I decided to enter the Major in Clinical Psychology at the Graduate School of Social Well-being Studies in Tama. The Department of Psychology at Hosei University offers a wide range of study in many areas of psychology, including cognitive, developmental, and physiological psychology. I hope that during your four years of university, you will find a field that interests you and think about your future at your own pace and without rushing.
Takuya Igarashi, 2007 graduate of Department of Psychology
Entered Hosei University Graduate School of Humanities Major in Psychology
My reason for entering the Department of Psychology was simple: "Psychology sounds interesting. Therefore, at the beginning, I was puzzled by many unexpected things, such as the fact that there is a statistics class even though it is psychology, and the wide range of the field of psychology. In this Department of Psychology, I learned various areas of psychology, from basic to applied, and had the opportunity to experience analyzing voice and measuring brain waves. I also learned many things outside of psychology, such as how to think about things and human relationships. As I learned various things in this way, I began to think that I wanted to study psychology further, and I decided to go on to graduate school. In graduate school, I intend to deepen what I have learned in the Department of Psychology and further study reading, which was the theme of my graduation thesis. I hope to make use of what I have learned in graduate school in my future life.
