Japan has made remarkable progress in science and technology, as evidenced by recent developments in advanced technological fields.
In the past, much of Japan's science and technology was learned from advanced Western countries. Today, however, the field of technology is rapidly expanding to play a leading role in the entire world, including Europe and the United States.
For this reason, there is a strong demand, not only from Japanese industry, but also from outside of Japan, for the development of highly skilled engineers and researchers with original abilities.
In order to respond to such demands from society, the Graduate School of Engineering was reorganized into the Graduate School of Science and Sociology in April 2013, with six majors: Major in Mechanical Engineering, Major in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Major in Applied Informatics Engineering, Major in Systems Engineering, Major in Applied Chemistry, and Major in Frontier Bioscience. The Graduate School of Science and Engineering was reorganized into six departments: Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Applied Information Engineering, Department of Systems Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry, and Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, each with its own master's and doctoral degree programs, to rebuild consistency between the Department of Sociology and the graduate school, and to strengthen the system to foster researchers in the six-year integrated professional education followed by the doctoral program. In addition, we have established an environment for accepting students from other universities, from working adults who wish to further their education, and from international students who wish to continue their education.
Inheriting the policies of the previous Graduate School of Engineering, we will provide education and research guidance with an emphasis on fostering "self-reliant human resources" with a high level of expertise and professionalism, who constantly improve their advanced knowledge and the latest specialized skills.
In addition, we will actively accept working adults and international students by improving our educational programs and enhancing our special admission system.
