The Graduate School of Engineering and Design was established by reorganizing and integrating the existing Graduate School of Engineering and Design. The Graduate School of Engineering and Design aims to conduct research on comprehensive design and to nurture human resources who will contribute to this philosophy, with the goals of preserving the global environment, creating a sustainable society, and creating new cultural values. Major in Engineering and Design are Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Systems Design, which integrate the common knowledge base of natural science, cognitive science, ergonomics, and aesthetics with cutting-edge expertise in engineering. The basic educational goals of the Graduate School of Architecture, Urban and Environmental Design, and System Design are to cultivate the following seven abilities: (1) planning, (2) design, (3) problem-solving, (4) professional ethics, (5) understanding of history and culture, (6) understanding of the global environment, and (7) ability to express and communicate. Each department embodies and realizes these goals through a practical and innovative curriculum. Therefore, we believe that graduates of the Graduate School of Design will be valuable human resources who have acquired comprehensive design skills and will be able to boldly respond to the difficult demands of the new era of diversification and complexity.
