What is "career" and what is "career design"?

What do you think of when you hear the word "career"? Many people may think of a profession, especially a specialized profession. However, at the Faculty of Career Design, we think of it more broadly. In line with the meaning of the English word "career" (life, career, path, etc.), we consider "career" to be all the trajectories that a person follows throughout his/her life. Career design" is the process of proactively "designing" (or "redesigning") one's career, a life that is irreplaceable for each and every one of us.

Why Career Design?

Designing your career is not the end of the story. In today's Japan, not everyone follows the standard career path, and in fact, the "standard" itself is shaking. In fact, the "standard" itself is shaky. There may be times when a career that has been designed once must be revised. This is why it is necessary to acquire the ability to design and redesign one's own career.
Japanese society is currently in the midst of major changes. In particular, changes in the way people work and diversify their lifestyles have a major impact on individual lives. The "standard" way of life that was the norm in the past, such as working for the same company for the rest of one's life or retiring after marriage and becoming a housewife, is no longer necessarily the way of life followed by everyone. In addition, the system of lifetime employment has been dismantled, and employment patterns have diversified to include temporary, contract, part-time, and part-time jobs, and changes in the economic climate are directly threatening individual lifestyles.
In the midst of these major changes in the way we live and work, there are more and more situations where individual decisions are required in the face of diverse career options. It is precisely because we live in such an era that each individual is required to acquire the ability to learn, think, and act independently and autonomously, with a solid understanding of the social structure and changes in the way we live, learn, and work - the power of career design.
