Well-being of People and Horses The purpose of this event was to promote understanding of the "Well-Being of People and Horses " * activities while having fun by interacting with and riding Hosei University's retired racehorses. In addition, by holding the lecture in the Faculty of Sports and Health Studies Science building and the Equestrian Club facility in the midst of nature and greenery, we aimed to have affiliated school students experience the charm of the Tama Campus and to revitalize the affiliated school collaboration program at the university. The lecturer was Satoshi Fukano Trustee NPO Future Valley, a Japanese equestrian facility for the disabled, and a member of the research team.
The students of the affiliated schools who were interested in horses actively participated in the lecture, and commented, "I really enjoyed interacting with the horses," "Thank you for this valuable experience," and "The horses' eyes are very kind, and I wanted to get to know them better. The officials who came to visit us also highly appreciated the significance of utilizing "retired racehorses" in the affiliated schools' collaborative projects, and the smiling faces of the affiliated school students interacting with the horses gave us high expectations for future "human and equine wellbeing" activities.
Below are comments from the captain of the gymnastics equestrian club.
The Equestrian Sports Club of the Sports Association is working toward a "new Sports Club" by not only aiming for victory in sports, but also engaging in research with a systematic and academic approach.
We were pleased to host the first "Well-Being of People and Horses" session this year, which was held for the attached school students. In the morning, we had a classroom lecture and presented the activities of the Equestrian Club. We introduced not only the student dressage challenge, but also "retraining groundwork," which is the training necessary for retired racehorses to compete in dressage competitions, "circular economy activities" utilizing horse manure compost, and "human-horse wellbeing" activities. Lecturer Fukano also gave a lecture on "horses" and "retired racehorses. In the afternoon fieldwork, the students had a chance to actually interact with our retired racehorses, Yamanin Lynx, Celeste Ulster, and La Jungere, and were offered a chance to try horseback riding. The students took the horses seriously and loved them very much.
We were very happy to have 9 students participate and enjoy the event. We hope that this event will help people to become more interested in horses and in the equestrian club. We will continue to promote the "Well-Being of People and Horses" activities so that more people can have contact with Hosei University's retired racehorses.
