Ayaka Kimura (1st year, Faculty of Letters ) of the Wrestling Team represented Japan in the Women's Freestyle 53kg Wrestling U20 World Championships held at the Armeets Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria, from August 15 to 20.

Sixteen athletes competed in the 53kg class. Kimura won a close match against JANKURTARAN of Azerbaijan in the first round, but was defeated in the second round by ANTIM of India, a strong opponent who had won the U20 Asian Championships, and was sent to the losers' bracket.

However, in the elimination round, the team showed its strengths and overwhelmed ANDRICH of Germany to win, and continued its momentum to beat KLIVCHUTSKA of Ukraine to finish in 3rd place.
