The Japanese national team for the 2022 World Cup Soccer Tournament in Qatar was announced on November 1, and Kisei Ueda, a graduate of the University's Faculty of Sports and Health Studies, was selected as a member of the team.
Kisei Ueda was a member of the Athletic Association Soccer Club and contributed to the winning of the All-Japan University Soccer Championships in her second year. In his junior year, he was selected for the Japan national team (A team) for the first time in nine years as an active university student. He later played for the Kashima Antlers of the J-League, where he was a key member of the team. He is currently playing for Cercle Brugge in the Belgian League, aiming for even higher goals.

The following is a comment from Taira Inoue, then coach, who coached Kisei Ueda during his time at the club.

Comments from Taira Inoue, coach of the Athletic Association Soccer Club
How do you feel about Ueda's selection as a member of the World Cup team?
I am relieved that he was selected. Japan definitely needs a striker like him. I hope he will show the world that Japan has such a great striker at the World Cup, a tournament that attracts the attention of the whole world.

What was your impression of Ueda at the time he was a member of the team?
He always had a humble attitude even though he was selected for the Japan national team (A team) while he was a student. He always gave 100% in his daily training, and he always practiced shooting with his juniors after general practice. We didn't just practice shooting, but we paid close attention to the details, such as the direction of the body to receive the ball and the swing of the foot, to simulate actual practice.

Message of support for Ueda
I would like to express my gratitude for being allowed to play in the wonderful environment of the World Cup, where the whole world is watching, and I hope he will do his best to make all of Japan smile with Kisei's goal with humility and persistence.
