Admissions Policy

Policies

The Faculty of Letters admits students with the following abilities and motivation through various entrance examinations (*).

General Selection (System A, Schedule T, Entrance Examination Using the Common University Entrance Test, Entrance Examination Using English Language Proficiency Test (Application Qualification Type)), School Recommendation Type Selection (Entrance Examination for Designated Schools, Entrance Examination for Affiliated Schools, Sports Recommendation Examination), Comprehensive Selection (Entrance Examination for Self-Recommendation, Entrance Examination for International Students (1st half)), Transfer/Interchange Examination.

  1. Applicants must have an understanding of Japanese, foreign languages, geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, and other subjects taken in high school at a level that will allow them to graduate.
  2. Possess the basic knowledge and education necessary for study and research after admission.
  3. Be able to think logically and express their thoughts clearly.
  4. Have a deep interest in the specialized field of the department they wish to study and a strong desire to learn.

Department of Philosophy

In accordance with the overall policy of the Faculty of Letters, the Department of Philosophy admits applicants who have the following abilities and motivation through various entrance examinations (*).

General Selection (Entrance Examinations for System A, Entrance Examinations for Schedule T, Entrance Examinations for the Common University Entrance Test), School Recommendation Type Selection (Entrance Examinations for designated schools, Entrance Examinations for affiliated schools, Sports Recommendation Examinations), Comprehensive Type Selection (Self-Reference Examinations, International Students Entrance Examinations (1st half)), and Transfer/Incorporation Examinations.

  1. Have the general basic academic skills necessary for university study.
  2. Possess the basic academic skills and knowledge necessary for study and research after admission. The student should also be able to think logically and express his/her own opinions.
  3. Have a deep interest in philosophy and a strong desire to learn.

Department of Japanese Literature

In accordance with the policy of the Faculty of Letters, the Department of Japanese will admit students with the following abilities and motivation through various entrance examinations (*). In order to accept students based on an accurate assessment of their abilities and qualifications, the Department of Japanese Language and Literature offers a variety of entrance examination routes and opens its doors widely to those who are qualified to study in the Department of Japanese Language and Literature.

*A system entrance examination, T schedule entrance examination, entrance examination using the Common University Entrance Test, self-recommendation entrance examination, designated school recommendation entrance examination, affiliated school recommendation entrance examination, sports recommendation entrance examination, and entrance examination for international students (1st half).

  1. Understand the content of Japanese, foreign languages, geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, and other subjects taken in high school at a level acceptable for graduation.
  2. Possess the basic knowledge and education necessary for study and research after admission.
  3. Be able to think logically and express their thoughts clearly.
  4. Have a deep interest in Japanese literature, language, and performing arts, and possess diverse and deep humanistic skills and qualities in all aspects of knowledge, reading comprehension, thinking, and expression necessary for the study and creation of literature and arts.

Department of English

In accordance with the policy of the Faculty of Letters, the Department of English Language and Literature, through various entrance examinations*, places emphasis on the following points and admits candidates who are willing and able to learn things from various viewpoints without being bound by one fixed point of view.

*A system entrance examination, T-schedule entrance examination, entrance examination using English external examination (application qualification type), entrance examination using the Common University Entrance Test, designated school recommendation examination, attached school recommendation examination, sports recommendation examination, entrance examination for international students (1st half), self-recommendation examination using English external examination.

  1. Understand the content of Japanese, foreign languages, geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, and other subjects taken in high school at a level acceptable for graduation.
  2. Possess the basic knowledge and education necessary for study and research after admission.
  3. Be able to think logically and express their thoughts clearly.
  4. An interest in the English language, English literature and English-speaking cultures.
  5. Have a desire to develop the scientific thinking necessary for the study of foreign language education and language theory.
  6. The Self-Recommendation Examination Using an External Examination in English admits applicants with a certain level of English proficiency and a desire to study English literature and English-speaking culture, foreign language education, and language theory.

Department of History

The Department of History admits applicants with the following abilities and motivation through various entrance examinations (*).

*A system entrance examination, T schedule entrance examination, entrance examination using the Common University Entrance Test, designated school recommendation examination, entrance examination using an affiliated school recommendation, sports recommendation examination, and entrance examination for international students (1st half).

  1. Have an understanding of the subject content of Japanese, foreign languages, geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, and other subjects taken in high school at a level acceptable for graduation.
  2. Possess the basic knowledge and education necessary for study and research after admission.
  3. Be able to think logically and express their thoughts clearly.
  4. Have a deep interest in the specialized fields of the Department of History and a strong desire to learn.

Department of Geography

The Department of Geography, through various entrance examinations (*), admits applicants who have the abilities, motivation, etc. as shown below.

*A system entrance examination, T-schedule entrance examination, entrance examination using the Common University Entrance Test, designated school recommendation examination, entrance examination for affiliated schools, sports recommendation examination, self-recommendation examination, and entrance examination for international students (first half).

  1. Understand the content of Japanese, foreign languages, geography, history, civics, mathematics, science, and other subjects taken in high school at a level acceptable for graduation.
  2. Possess the basic knowledge and education required for study and research after entering the program.
  3. Be able to think logically and express their thoughts clearly.
  4. Have a deep interest in the specialized fields of the Department of Geography and a strong desire to learn.

Department of Psychology

Department of Psychology admits, through various entrance examinations (*), candidates who have the following abilities and motivation.

*A system entrance examination, T schedule entrance examination, entrance examination using the Common University Entrance Test, designated school recommendation examination, entrance examination using an affiliated school recommendation, sports recommendation examination, and entrance examination for international students (1st half).
