Mayu Ito, a senior in the Department of Frontier Bioscience Biotechnology, received the Best Presentation Award (for young researchers under 35 years old) at the 104th Annual Meeting of the Kanto Branch of the Bacteriological Society of Japan, which was held online on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
Ms. Ito belongs to Professor Ikuro Kawagishi's Cellular Function Laboratory.

Summary

When this marine bacterium attaches itself to the surface of fish and other organisms, the bacterium stretches and grows numerous flagella around it and moves around.
In his award-winning presentation, he reported on the results of his analysis of a mutant strain that moves faster than the wild strain when observed under a microscope, but is almost unable to move at the visible level.
