Professor Emeritus Sadamu Shimomori, former President of Hosei University, passed away on October 1, 2011 at the age of 91. （He was 91 years old.)
After completing the Master's Course in Private Law at the Graduate School of Sociology, Hosei University in March 1956, he became an assistant at the Faculty of Law in April of the same year, and after leaving the University of Tokyo in March 1960, he became a full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Law in April of the same year, an assistant professor in April 1961, and a professor in April 1969. He taught at the University for a long time as a full-time lecturer at the Faculty of Law in April 1961, an assistant professor in April 1961, and a professor in April 1969.
During this period, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1978 to 1979, Dean of the Faculty of Law in 1983, Director of the Institute of Modern Law from 1985 to 1986, and Chairman of the Graduate School Committee from 1993 to 1994. During his tenure as President of Hosei University, he also served as the President of the Japan Law Institute and the Chairman of the Graduate School Committee from 1993 to 1994. During his tenure as President, he also served as Executive Trustee of the Japan Association of Private Universities, Councilor of the Japan University Accreditation Association, and Trustee and Councilor of the University Seminar House.
He specializes in civil law and has conducted numerous research achievements in the areas of the right to rescind a fraudulent act and contractual liability. He is a member of the Japan Association of Private Law, the Japan Association of Financial Law, and the Japan Association of Land Law. He has also served as a member of the second round of the bar examinations, a member of the real estate appraiser examination committee, and a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Tokyo Bar Association, and was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette in April 2010.
