The Weightlifting Team of the Athletic Association won the team championship for the first time in nine years at the 67th All-Japan Intercollegiate Weightlifting Championships (Division I) held at the Saiden Chemical Arena (Saitama Prefecture) from December 7 (Tue.) to 9 (Thu.), 2021. As a report of the results of this competition, the team was presented by Mr. SAITO Masaru (Associate Professor, Faculty of Letters), Mr. TAGODA Kazunori, OB/OG President, Mr. TAIRA Asajun, Director, Mr. SAWATO Kentaro (Captain, Faculty of Lifelong Learning and Career Studies), Mr. OKA Hirotomo (Faculty of Business Administration), Mr. TSUTAKO Takuya (Faculty of Law), Mr. NISHIDA Youfu (Faculty of Sustainability Studies), and Mr. YAMASHITA Kenichi (Faculty of Career Design, new Captain) on January 14, 2012. ) paid a courtesy visit to President HIROSE Katsuya on January 14.
The winners of this year's competition achieved this feat by defeating the absolute champion Nihon University, which had won eight consecutive championships.
Individually, the captain Sawato had outstanding performances, setting a new tournament record in the +109kg weight class, but each of the 10 competitors in each weight class gave their all to achieve a good result, and the team worked as one to grab the crown.
Coach Taira commented, "Many students were injured, but we were able to achieve this result thanks to everyone's hard work and perseverance. It was a tough road, but I can't express how happy I am after the victory.
President Hirose commented, "I am truly happy about this victory, which was the result of each of you fighting for yourselves, carrying the thoughts and feelings of the organization, and respect for each other. Your success in sports is a great inspiration to our graduates, and we are grateful for it. He praised the athletes for their achievements.
