I chose the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because I thought I could approach and learn about the environment from various perspectives. Currently, I am mainly studying environmental education and community development, but until my first year of high school, I was interested in traditional Japanese rituals and customs, and just vaguely thought I would study history. I started learning about environmental education when I had the opportunity to visit a teacher who taught me about local culture and agriculture in elementary school, and I thought that my own interest in this field might be related to the environment and people's lifestyle and culture in the surrounding areas I had studied. Then, when I visited an open campus during my senior year of high school, I learned about the activities of the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, met the seniors and professors in my current seminar, and decided to go to this faculty.

Kojima Seminar Winter Camp
I am currently a member of Professor KOJIMA Satoshi's research group. Here, I am learning about environmental policy and urban planning from various perspectives through social issues and literature subscriptions. Along with my studies in the seminar, I participated in a field study in Hokkaido during my first year and learned about the relationship between NPOs and environmental education. There are many opportunities to work with people from various grades in seminars and extracurricular studies, and I feel that this is a place where I can actually apply what I have learned in class and get to know the field.
I chose German as my foreign language because I was also interested in German environmental policy. I am enjoying learning German because it is stimulating and different from the English I was used to in junior high and high school.
When the time came for me to take the university entrance examination, the self-recommendation examination gave me an opportunity to think about what kind of position I should take and what kind of activities I should engage in in society. It is difficult to look at social issues close to you and formulate your own opinions about them, but the process of being exposed to more and more unfamiliar things may actually become fun if you try it. I know it is difficult for high school students to engage in additional learning activities due to club activities and schoolwork, but it is a great opportunity to make many discoveries and learn more about yourself, so please give it a try.

Hokkaido Field Study
I applied to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because I was attracted to its curriculum, which deepens learning based on the concept of "building a sustainable society. My city had been repeatedly debating the pros and cons of accepting waste from other cities. While there were voices of opposition in the area surrounding the city's waste incineration facility, which suffers from noise and air pollution, there were many who were in favor of accepting waste in order to cooperate with other cities. Every municipality has its own problems, but we did not know where to start to solve them. I decided to apply to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because it provided an environment in which I could think about these questions.
I am currently studying social issues, focusing on income inequality and educational disparity. I am considering why there are people suffering from poverty in economically affluent Japan from many perspectives such as political science, sociology, pedagogy and welfare. Among these, I am particularly interested in local self-government, so I am acquiring academic knowledge of administrative structures, and at the same time, I am thinking about how I can apply this knowledge to other cities, based on practical examples such as the efforts of each municipality.
Today's society has a variety of problems, and there is no single way to improve or solve them. When I was a high school student, I thought that I could not change society by myself. However, in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, I learned the importance of each individual taking initiative and thinking deeply about what kind of society we want to create in the future. I am currently working as a volunteer for an organization that provides learning support to economically disadvantaged children. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies is a department that considers how people can live happily and permanently. I am looking forward to learning together with you.

Tohoku Reconstruction Volunteer
I became interested in the relationship between the environment and economics after reading a newspaper article titled "It is possible to balance global warming countermeasures and economic activities. I applied to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because I thought it would allow me to confront environmental issues from various perspectives, not only in economics but also in science, law, and many other fields.

Group work in a research group
I am taking courses on a wide range of topics that interest me, and in my second year, the content of the lectures I can choose from has become more in-depth and specialized.
I am currently a member of Professor Matsumoto's research group in the Environmental Science course, focusing on global warming. I am deepening my understanding of the environment through "environmental bulletins," in which environmental news is discussed, and "round lectures," in which students read a text and then give a presentation and discuss it. At the Environmental Exhibition, each group visited exhibits and researched companies.
This summer, we plan to participate in a field study. I think it will be a valuable experience for me to experience the actual field, and I will do my best to gain new knowledge and ideas.

Individual presentation at the study group
The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers several courses, allowing students to learn and think about various environmental issues from multiple perspectives. The school also offers a rich learning environment, including seminars on the human environment and field studies, where you can hear directly from people who are active in the field. I am sure that you will be able to find a field that interests you.

I went to an environmental exhibition with my research group.
When I traveled to Okinawa with my family, I was impressed by the abundant nature there and became interested in learning more about nature conservation. I wanted to go to the actual site myself for seminar camps and field studies to experience various things and have unique experiences that I could only have in the actual site. I also decided to apply to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because it offers a wide range of studies in a variety of fields, allowing me to think about environmental issues from multiple perspectives.

I am currently enrolled in the Local Sustainability Course and actively taking classes along the course. In March of my freshman year, I participated in the Shiraho Field Study on Ishigaki Island. I was able to consider both the impressions I had from the outside and the current situation as seen from the local perspective after experiencing the area firsthand. I would like to spend more time with local people at the seminar camp as I did at the field study.

The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers a wide range of studies unique to this department, allowing students to think and learn from a variety of perspectives. Students can also learn more deeply by belonging to research groups, and learn not only through classroom lectures but also through the five senses at field studies. Even if you have not yet decided what you want to study, I believe that this is a department where you can find what you want to do as you learn.
I am also a member of the Athletic Club, and I aim to be both a literary and a martial artist in my student life. Let's have a fulfilling student life together in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.

When I was in high school, I wanted to become a tour conductor. For this purpose, I wanted to visit countries that are different from my home environment and feel the differences with my five senses. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers a very rich learning environment and what I wanted to learn through overseas field studies.
I am currently a member of Professor Okamatsu's study group, where we discuss and study international issues using international law. For off-campus study, we visited the Ichigaya Defense Ministry, the Impeachment Court, and the National Diet Building (observing the House of Councillors Budget Committee). During the summer vacation of my first year, I participated in an overseas field study in Sri Lanka, where I was able to experience with all five senses the differences and similarities between the environment in which I live and the one in which I live. I am also studying Russian as my second foreign language.
The Faculty of Sustainability Studies allows students to choose their field of interest from a wide range of fields, and they can further specialize their studies through field studies and study groups. One of the best things about the Faculty of Sustainability Studies is that there are many people with different ways of thinking. There are many fields of study and people with different ways of thinking, which is very stimulating for me and helps me to grow. I hope you will spend your four years searching for what you want to do!

Overseas Field Study (Sri Lanka)
In Yamagata Prefecture, where I am from, depopulation is progressing, and I wanted to learn about community development. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers a field study program called "Field Study. I was attracted to the field study program because it allowed me to hear the voices of local government officials, local businesses, and NPOs, and to see how what I had learned in lectures and workshops was being put into practice in the field. I think this is the most attractive point of the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, where students can acquire real-life knowledge through both lectures, workshops, and field studies.

Domestic Field Study (Iida City)
I am currently a member of Professor Hasegawa's research group in the Sustainable Management and Economics course. Although I have only been in the study group for a short time, I have been reading reports, giving presentations, and debating various issues. For example, the content of the debate is "What is the ideal vision of Japanese society in 2050, and what is the direction of innovation and the best mix of technologies for Japanese companies? It is difficult to think about issues for which there are no easy answers, but it is a very meaningful and intellectually stimulating time to debate with my peers. Currently, I am working hard every day on group activities for the Nikkei STOCK League.

Research Meeting Agenda
Nice to meet you all. I am Marina Kishi, a second-year student at the Faculty of Sustainability Studies. In the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, you can think and learn about not only environmental issues but also various phenomena occurring in society from multifaceted perspectives such as law, economics, Faculty of Business Administration, and sociology. I was able to learn about a wide variety of fields far beyond what I had imagined before entering the program, and I myself became interested in learning about fields different from what I had wanted to study at the time of my enrollment. Through the lectures and study groups, I have come to realize the importance of having a broad perspective in order to solve the problems of modern society. I hope that all prospective students will also pursue what they are interested in. I look forward to learning and working hard together with you at the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.

Nikkei STOCK League
I chose the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because it offers the opportunity to study a variety of fields and to learn about a single subject from all angles. When I was in my third year of high school and preparing for entrance exams, the Great East Japan Earthquake triggered my interest in a wide range of topics, such as the relationship between disasters and the land, and changes in ecosystems due to global warming. I decided to apply to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because I thought I would be able to learn about all the topics I was interested in.

Circle activities
I am currently a member of Associate Professor Sugito's research group, where I am learning about the natural environment (mainly earthquakes), land conditions, land history, and natural disaster preparedness. In Prof. Sugito's group, I am able to learn about topics that I have been interested in since before I entered the university, and I am learning for my future individual research.
I also plan to participate in a field study (FS) this summer. I am looking forward to this FS and the study group's field trips, which will allow me to visit the site and feel the environment with all my senses, and I am sure that I will come away with different ideas and issues from classroom learning.

Research Groups
The 21st century is said to be the century of the environment, and environmentally conscious activities are required in all fields. In connecting all these fields with environmental issues, it is necessary to consider them from various angles. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies provides students with the opportunity to accumulate a wide range of knowledge and multifaceted thinking. In addition, since you can learn from both classroom and field study perspectives, you will have many opportunities to discover new fields of interest and new ideas. Let's find your field of interest in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies and learn together about the social and natural environment.

One-day tour of the study group
I became interested in environmental issues after witnessing the reality of standing dead trees and deforestation near my home. I also want to solve this problem now that global warming has become a worldwide issue. At the open campus of Hosei University, I felt "empathy" and "admiration" for the way senior students were studying toward their dreams, which further strengthened my desire to study at the Faculty of Sustainability Studies. I decided to apply to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because I thought it would be the best place to think about environmental issues from not only a scientific perspective but also from a multifaceted viewpoint, including field study.

I am currently studying the relationship between development, poverty, and environmental issues. I am taking courses in "International Relations" and "Environmental Studies" and belong to a research group on developing countries. Now that I am in my third year, I am able to take more lectures and specialize in more fields, so I am spending my days more fully. In particular, I place an emphasis on actually seeing the world, and I am actively deepening my learning through field studies and short-term study abroad programs on campus, and by joining international cooperation NGOs and international exchange groups off campus, both in Japan and abroad.

I had a dream of becoming a teacher, and I wanted to acquire knowledge that would be useful in education at university. As I researched more about the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, I became interested in international studies in addition to the knowledge that would be useful in education. In particular, I wanted to learn about how developing countries can develop. I also wanted to connect this to the natural problems and revitalization of depopulated areas in Tottori, my mother's hometown, so I chose the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.
I am currently a member of a seminar that studies various problems that occur in developing and developed countries with the aim of creating a sustainable society. I am studying in the seminar that I wanted to join before entering the university. The theme of this year's seminar is "Poverty Issues in Developing Countries," and I am learning about the history, current situation, and countermeasures for poverty in developing countries, while comparing them with poverty in developed countries. I am also taking a teaching course, so I am studying for a teaching license and doing the seminar at the same time. I will continue to study hard to achieve my goals and realize the hopes I had before entering the university.

When I saw the movie "An Inconvenient Truth," I was shocked by the environmental problems that occur around the world, and I wanted to be involved in solving environmental problems in the future.
There are three reasons why I thought that I could fulfill this desire in this department.
(1) Because I can learn about a wide range of environmental issues related to human beings from a humanities perspective.
(2) Because I felt that by learning about a wide range of environmental issues, I would be able to acquire a multifaceted viewpoint.
(iii) I was attracted to the field study program because I could actually go to the field and learn about local environmental issues.
In the lectures, I learn about a wide range of topics that interest me, including the natural environment, the labor environment, public health, and the health environment.
Currently, I belong to a seminar on the theme of the symbiosis between humans and nature, and I am deepening my studies by considering and debating issues such as ivory poaching, the pros and cons of whaling, and how to respond to damage caused by wild animals. In our regular extracurricular activities, we visit places such as Mt. Takao, Teganuma, and Kasai Rinkai Park, where efforts are being made to protect nature and where problems are occurring, and we spend many fulfilling days there.
In the summers of my first and second year, I participate in field studies, which are an attractive feature of this faculty, to feel the great nature of Hokkaido and the importance of nature throughout my life at the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.

Extracurricular activities of the seminar (Takada Seminar)
I was admitted to the school through self-recommendation. Originally, I intended to take the general entrance examination, but before the summer vacation of my junior year, I found out about the self-recommendation entrance examination. The self-recommendation exam includes an essay and an interview, so I had to study for the self-recommendation exam in addition to studying for the general entrance exam. It was very difficult for me to balance my studies with the general entrance examination, and I was even stopped by my school teacher due to academic difficulties.
However, my desire to enter the Faculty of Sustainability Studies and my desire not to have regrets became stronger, and I decided to give it a try.
Believe in the choice you have made and succeed. If you have a strong desire for environmental issues and work hard, you will surely see results! We are waiting for all of you who are interested in environmental issues. If you overcome the entrance examinations, you will have the most enjoyable college life!

I first became interested in the natural environment when I learned about "Morino no Yohen" in high school. I was so impressed by the wonderful changes I saw in the children's physical and mental health as they interacted with the abundance of nature during my visits to the Forest Slumber School that I decided to promote this activity. However, I realized that there are various issues to be addressed in order to spread these activities, such as community development, and I decided to apply to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, where I can take a broad-based approach to solving these issues.

Walking in Marunouchi
I am currently a member of a research group that engages in a wide range of activities centered on the CES (Chiyoda Ecosystem), which was established by Chiyoda Ward as a unique system for improving the environment. In addition to classroom lectures, the study group also allows me to walk around the city and participate in Chiyoda Ward events, which brings me into contact with a wide variety of people and provides me with more realistic and new information. In addition to regular classes, I also take civil service courses, and I receive all kinds of support in my studies, such as individual consultations and lectures by civil servants.

I applied to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies because the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011 made me realize how little I knew about environmental issues in my home country, Japan, and I wanted to learn more about them. I was also attracted to field studies, where one can learn about the local environment and culture not only through classroom lectures, but also by visiting the actual sites. In my first year of university, I participated in a local festival in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, and in my second year of university, I went to Cambodia, where I had valuable experiences that I could not have had in Japan.

Currently, I am a member of the International Volunteer Student Association (IVUSA), a non-profit organization, where students learn about cleanup activities along the coast and community revitalization in areas with heavy snowfall. Within the faculty, I am also a member of the Kojima Seminar, where I am learning about inter-community exchange while working with several communities, including Iiyama City in Nagano Prefecture. In addition, I work with children's centers in Chiyoda Ward to provide "environmental education" and enjoy learning about familiar environmental issues and initiatives with children while incorporating play.

Nice to meet you all. My name is Haruna Ikeda from the Faculty of Sustainability Studies at Hosei University. When we think about the environment, we need to consider not only one local area but also socially and globally. In this faculty, you can freely choose what you are interested in and learn a wide range of environmental issues from a local perspective to the global field. I have visited numerous field sites. As a result, I realized that the best way to learn is to visit, experience, and learn from the sites. I hope that you will join the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, visit various regions and countries, and think about what a sustainable environment is.

Together with everyone in Kojima Seminar
I originally wanted to learn about the "environment," but I did not want to limit myself to just one field of study at university. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers a wide range of courses centered on the "environment" and allows students to specialize in areas of interest, and to deepen their studies through extensive field study. I chose this school because I thought, "This is the only school where I can expand my possibilities! I chose this school because I thought, "This is the only department where I can expand my possibilities!

In the seminar I belong to, we study urban agriculture, mountainous areas, and sixth industrialization. Last year, in order to deepen our understanding of the practice of sixth industrialization, we collaborated with farmers in Ajigasawa Town, Aomori Prefecture, to process and sell apples at the school festival. In order to further deepen my seminar studies, I also participated in a field study related to the seminar's content.

I am very glad that I chose this faculty. The Faculty of Sustainability Studies is a place where people who want to learn and want to know can come together! I want to learn and know! I am very glad that I chose this department. The unique appeal of the Faculty of Human Environment is the connection of learning through various classes and field studies that transcend the boundaries of disciplines. I hope that you will gain many experiences in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.
