I entered the Faculty of Sustainability Studies in April 2016. I am now a sophomore. I found out about Hosei University's Faculty of Sustainability Studies when I was researching universities to study abroad in Japan. I was impressed by the fact that the program offers field studies, where students have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience in the field, and that it is based not only on the environment, but also on the relationship between humans and the environment.
Through the classes, I began to understand why the school is called "Faculty of Sustainability Studies" and not "Faculty of Environment. In the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, students study not only the environment, but also current human society in depth. We study topics like peace studies, human security, environmental health, environmental education, and so on, relating humans to the environment.
I belong to a research group on food issues. You may wonder why the problem of food shortage is related to the environment, but the causes of food problems include environmental problems. Thus, environmental problems have a great impact on humans, and humans also have a great impact on the environment.
If you join the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, you will have the opportunity to study a global and broad range of topics with many opportunities for field studies. In addition, by taking classes in a variety of fields, you will gain a great deal of knowledge about the environment and humans.

In recent years, environmental pollution has become increasingly serious in China. Beijing and Shanghai have been hit by air pollution, and droughts in Yunnan and Chongqing have severely affected the daily lives of the people. The government has regulated vehicle traffic to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and initiated the "South Water North Ching" (transporting water resources from the south to the north) project to solve the problem of water shortages, but the situation has not improved as a result of prioritizing economic development.
My dream is to work in a region where environmental problems are becoming more serious, and to do my best to improve the environment. For this reason, I would like to specialize in environmental studies at university. Japan is more advanced than China in terms of research and investigation of environmental issues. For this reason, I chose the Faculty of Sustainability Studies and wanted to learn how to solve various environmental problems.
In the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, students take not only natural science courses but also courses in the humanities, law, economics, and sociology to comprehensively learn the knowledge necessary to solve environmental problems. Students can also join a seminar and learn about various issues related to the urban and rural environment. In addition, students can participate in field studies and gain knowledge through practice.
In the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, you will be able to transcend conventional academic frameworks and use your broad knowledge of the environment to propose solutions to problems from a variety of perspectives and to develop the ability to put them into practice. I believe that this is a place where you can challenge yourself and overcome yourself, as you can study any environmental issue here.

In recent years, environmental pollution in China has become more and more severe. Beijing and Shanghai have suffered from the problem of air pollution, and Yunnan Province and Chongqing City have encountered the problem of drought. These problems have a huge impact on people's daily lives. The government is planning to solve the drought problem by limiting emissions of carbon dioxide and by controlling the flow of water from the south to the north. However, if we give priority to developing our economy, the situation will not turn around.
My dream is to work in regions where environmental problems are serious, and to improve these problems by my own ability. Therefore, I have decided to study environmental studies at university. Japan is strong in research and study of environmental issues, so I chose the School of Human Environment Studies to learn how to solve environmental issues.
I will study humanities, law, economics, sociology, and other subjects in the Faculty of Human Environment. In addition, you will learn the general knowledge required to solve environmental problems. In the second year, you can choose different courses and make sure of your own learning direction. You may also participate in study groups to learn about various environmental issues in the city or village. You can also participate in field trips to learn through practical experience.
The Faculty of Human Environment and universal learning methods are not the same, so you can cultivate the knowledge of the environmental conditions that you will use, and the ability to submit your own solutions to various problems in various fields, and to practice solving problems. I can study any subject related to the environment., Because I want to challenge myself、 Transcend your own region。

I would like to work in the future to create an environment where people are happy. To do this, I needed to study the environment around me, find out what problems exist and what measures I should take to solve them. I applied to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies at Hosei University because I believe that through theoretical study and a variety of experiences, I can build an environment in which people can be happy.
The Faculty of Sustainability Studies offers five courses. Students can choose the course they want to study from the Sustainable Economics and Management Course, the Local Sustainability Course, the Global Sustainability Course, the Human Culture Course, and the Environmental Science Course. I have chosen the Global Sustainability Course to study various problems occurring in the international community and solutions to them. I am also studying in Prof. Takesada's seminar on food issues to create a sustainable future, regardless of the framework of developing countries or developed countries.
In the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, you can learn not only about environmental issues, but also about a wide range of issues that are currently occurring in society. If you are interested in the environment and social issues, I believe that you will be able to grow further in the Faculty of Sustainability Studies.

Working on the theme song for the Faculty of Sustainability Studies in Prof. Mayo Shono's "Artists and Social Contribution" class.
In recent years, China's air pollution, water pollution, and other environmental problems such as industrial and urban pollution have attracted worldwide attention. Since I came to Japan, I have often been asked about and discussed China's environmental problems by clients at my part-time job. Listening to them, I learned that in the past Japan also had water pollution problems such as Minamata disease and Itai-itai disease, and as a result of many efforts, environmental problems have gradually improved. From that moment on, I started to think about what I could do to help the environmental problems in China. Then, after researching many schools, I chose the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, knowing that it was the only department where I could learn about the environment on an urban campus and that it was the only department that considered environmental issues from a liberal arts perspective.
The undergraduate courses in this department allow students to comprehensively study various fields of study, including social sciences and humanities as well as natural sciences, while always keeping in mind the idea of a "sustainable society. In addition, through "field studies," which are unique to the Faculty of Sustainability Studies, students can experience and enjoy the blessings of nature through all five senses by visiting the field.
The Faculty of Sustainability Studies has a small number of international students, which means that you will have a chance to make many Japanese friends. Through interaction with Japanese students, you can not only improve your own Japanese language skills, but also deepen mutual understanding and goodwill toward different cultures. Hosei University also offers a variety of unique scholarship programs for international students to encourage them to study hard and enjoy a fulfilling student life. Finally, although one person's power to improve environmental problems may be tiny, let us join the Faculty of Sustainability Studies to learn various environmental knowledge, make many people aware of environmental knowledge, and work together to create a sustainable society.

In recent years, various environmental problems caused by China such as , Pollution, etc. have received worldwide attention. Whenever I work on a project, I usually have Japanese customers in my store come to my office to discuss environmental issues in China with me. In our discussions, I have learned that Japan has gone through a period of very severe water pollution before, and finally the Japanese government's unceasing efforts have made Japan a clean and fresh air, a beautiful environment, and a clean and orderly city. I have checked many universities' faculties and found that the geographical location of the faculty is right in the center of the city, and there is only one faculty, Hosei University's Faculty of Human Environment, which is able to explore environmental issues from a humanities angle. Therefore, I did not make the choice without any hesitation.
Each of the specialized courses in the Faculty of Human Environment is based on the philosophy of "maintaining a sustainable and growing society", and the range of subjects is wide enough to allow you to learn and analyze environmental issues from various angles, from politics and economics to the humanities and space, etc., so that you will be able to further improve your knowledge. Aside from that, the "hands-on" learning style is one of the main features of the Human Environment Department. You will be able to learn about various environmental situations, understand the local culture and people, and experience the beauty and joy of nature.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invites only a few foreign students, so this is a great opportunity for you to meet many Japanese friends. You will be able to improve your Japanese language and understand more deeply the differences between Chinese and Japanese culture and customs from the exchange. As well, Hosei University provides financial aid and scholarships for international students, so that they can further focus on their studies. Lastly, I would like to say that the improvement of the environment is not only a government task, but it is also necessary for all of us to understand and mix with each citizen. I hope that more international students will understand the human environment and join us in spreading the environmental knowledge they learn in their four years at the university to even more people, so that we can work together to build a more harmonious society that continues to develop!
