The series provides information on the mechanism of disasters, the latest case studies, lessons learned and issues, and disaster prevention efforts with abundant photos and diagrams, and can be used for disaster education. Although the intended audience is junior high school students, the books may also be useful for students who want to become teachers. This series won the 19th School Library Publication Award in May 2017. Sugito is one of the shared authors of "1 Earthquake.
Japanese Wetlands Society, supervised by TAKADA Masayuki, representative of the editorial board and shared author, 2017 Asakura Shoten.
This book deals with wetlands in Japan in a systematic, cross-sectional, and comprehensive manner under the four themes of "Benefits to Humans," "Wildlife," "Ecosystem Characteristics and Functions," and "Conservation Efforts," and should be used as an introduction or encyclopedia by various people involved or interested in wetlands. As the title "Illustrated" suggests, the main feature of the book is that it is richly illustrated with photographs and diagrams to help the reader understand through the visual sense. The book contains hints for the sustainable coexistence of humans and wetlands.

This volume is an easy-to-understand compilation of various surveys, studies, and activities on wetlands in Hokkaido. It talks about the fascination of wetland research from a scientist's point of view, its depth, and the latest knowledge. The book shows that wetlands, which were unknown a long time ago, are gradually being unraveled through the involvement of specialists in various fields, and at the same time, many mysteries are being added, which will continue to attract scientists in the future.

Chiyoda Ward's Proposals to Universities and Other Institutions in Chiyoda Ward through Research Assistance
TAKADA Masayuki and seminar students 2016-2018
As a sub seminar activity, two seminars, each consisting of six groups, are working to uncover the natural attractions of Chiyoda Ward from a broad perspective and disseminate the findings. The students are attempting to conduct on-site surveys, collect data, and analyze and evaluate the data through their own originality and ingenuity. Ultimately, we hope to make a proposal that will lead to an improvement in the attractiveness of Chiyoda Ward from the perspective of biodiversity.

Masayuki Takada, "Chapter 8: Tropical Peat Formation," "Chapter 31: Peat Mapping."
Peat is a soil that has not yet been decomposed by plants, and it is found in cold, high-latitude areas. On the other hand, Indonesia, which is a tropical country, also has vast peatlands due to its abundant rainfall. In recent years, however, peat has been drying up, causing a major environmental problem: fires. Therefore, a group of peat researchers in Hokkaido conducted a study for the conservation of tropical peat using their knowledge and technology, and compiled the results in the form of a thesis. At the same time, technology transfer was carried out. This is an example of how research conducted in a cold region can be successfully applied to a hot region.

Dogs and hawks have been recorded and depicted in relation to people and inscribed in history to show their relationship with people and their position in society. In the Edo period, the shogun's power was closely intertwined with the relationship between dogs, hawks, and people. Focusing on the Genroku period of the fifth shogun, Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, known as the "dog lord," and the Kyoho period of the eighth shogun, Yoshimune Tokugawa, known as the "hawk shogun," this book depicts the shifting politics and culture, focusing on the shogunate's policies on birds and animals and the lives of ordinary people at the mercy of these policies.

In his Critique of Dialectical Reason, Jean-Paul Sartre, a 20th century French philosopher and writer, describes the transition process of "groups" in the order of "molten groups," "pledged groups," "organized groups," and "institutional groups. Although his theory of the "collective" is based on the tripartite relationship as its basic structure and emphasizes the significance of the "third party," this paper sheds new light on the "political" in his thought by closely examining the relationship between the "collective" and the "third party" in the transition process of the "collective.

With a view to introducing biodiversity offsets, a mechanism to reduce biodiversity loss due to development, in Japan in the future, we studied the concept and evaluation method for its application in wetlands and grasslands. Although there are still many technical issues to be solved depending on regional characteristics, ecosystem types, and the degree of disturbance, as well as institutional and operational issues, we hope that these results will lead to the next step in biodiversity conservation.
