No. 1 Considering the Conservation of the Historical Environment (Mitsuo Nezaki)

The Minuma rice paddies that stretch across a corner of Saitama City were developed in the Edo period (1603-1868), but have undergone major transformations due to urbanization. In the area that straddles Hakone Town in Kanagawa Prefecture and Mishima City in Shizuoka Prefecture, stone pavements, ichirizuka (mounds), and barrier posts that show traces of the Tokaido Highway still remain. Local governments and local people are working diligently to preserve this historical environment, but there are still various issues to be addressed. It is very important to visit the site and learn about the conservation efforts and challenges.

No.3 Thinking about agriculture and farming village from beech forest (Tsutomu Tanaka)

We will visit Yoshikawa-ku, Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, to consider various issues related to agriculture and farming communities. The water flowing from the beech forest is used for rice cultivation in Kikkawa-ku, an agricultural area with a beautiful rural landscape where people are passionate about rice cultivation in the face of depopulation and aging population. You can learn a lot about farming activities that make use of nature and the farming village as a society that is created there by talking directly with the government and farmers. Why not broaden your horizons?

We will participate in the "Puppet Festa" and the "Ringo Festival," watch a puppet show handed down by the local people, and learn about Iida City's activities to create an environmentally friendly city from various perspectives, in order to think about a new way of thinking about the community. In addition, participants will learn about the cultural traditions and town revitalization through hands-on experience, including visits to traditional streets in the nearby Tsumago and Magome areas.

No.6 Study tour to feel international law (Akiko Okamatsu)

Throughout the long history of mankind, we have experienced war and peace. In this field study, students will think about international peace by visiting sites where international law is actually used, such as international organizations and international courts, concentration camps for Jews persecuted by the Nazis during World War II, and Anne Frank's hideout. In addition, the program aims to develop an international mindset through exposure to European culture by walking around the old town of Lübeck, which is designated as a World Heritage site, visiting museums, and so on.

№7 Learning about the lives of people in developing countries and the site of international cooperation with all five senses - Connecting the earthquake/tsunami affected areas (Toshihiko Takesada)

The purpose of this field study is to use all five senses to learn about the lives and people of developing countries that are targets of economic cooperation and aid. In particular, this field study will provide an opportunity to look at the current situation in Sri Lanka, which was affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, and then to think about the affected areas in Japan, and to reconsider the relationship between developing countries and Japan and Japanese society itself from a different angle than usual. The main theme of the program was to connect the reality of Japan and Sri Lanka in some way for each of the participating students.
