The theme of this year's call for entries was "What kind of company will change society with green and digital as a tailwind? The final judging panel selected nine winning essays from among the many submissions from graduate students, undergraduate students, international students, and others from across Japan.
The winning paper was entitled "The evolution of contactless technology holds the key to not only saving Japanese society from crisis, but also to providing new added value to global society. emissions without sacrificing productivity or convenience. The claim that "the utilization of contactless technology will enhance adaptability to infectious diseases and global warming, and contribute to the resilience of socioeconomic infrastructure" was highly evaluated.
The paper that won both the Excellence Award and the Judges' Special Award was entitled "It is difficult to build a decarbonized society with the resource- and energy-intensive businesses that have led Japan to prosperity. What is required of companies today is to break away from the "one-time business" that is "easy to get rid of" and shift to a "lifecycle business" that "never leaves the hands" of its customers. To achieve this, the key to sustainable growth for companies and society lies in discovering the latent needs of consumers through interactive communication by utilizing DX.

<Best Runner-Up
Yurika Hayashi, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
I am very happy to receive this prestigious award as the runner-up. At Corona Disaster, we believe that companies that develop contactless businesses are the ones that will transform society with green and digital technologies, which is the theme of this year's competition. Although there were some difficulties in writing the paper because it was written during the Corona disaster, the time we spent communicating and discussing more than usual with our professors, seniors, and fellow students was very meaningful and a time in which we could grow a lot. I would like to make use of this experience in my future seminar activities and job hunting activities. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Hasegawa for his careful guidance and to the group members who studied with us.

Masatake Honjo, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
I am very happy to have been selected for the Best Second Prize. We believe that companies that have a proactive stance toward decarbonization while developing businesses centered on contactless technology are the ones that will "transform society with green and digital as the tailwind. The experience of completing my dissertation through discussions with my professors, seniors, and fellow students has greatly helped me to grow as a person. I would like to make use of this experience in my future seminar activities and job hunting activities.

Nanako Oishi, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
Thank you very much for the very prestigious award of the second place. We chose decarbonization for green and non-contact for digital, and we believe that companies that are proactive enough to make these events their allies are the ones that will lead social change in the future. The time I spent in giving shape to the expression I wanted to write in the form of letters, the time I spent with my professors and colleagues in polishing my work, and the experience of being evaluated in this way gave me a great deal of confidence. I would like to use this experience as a source of inspiration for my future research activities.

Keiko Nagasaki, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
I am very honored to receive the Excellence Award and the Judges' Special Award. This writing project was an opportunity for me to output my learning in the seminar. Through the writing process, I realized how closely connected my university studies and social issues are, and how valuable my university studies were to me. I would like to use this experience as a springboard for my future research activities.

Yuuzan Ishiwatari, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
I am very honored to have received two awards, the Excellence Award and the Judges' Special Award. We believe that building a business model that leverages the IoT and keeps customers on hand will lead to the realization of a decarbonized society. This writing project was a wonderful opportunity for us to rethink the future of our society in our own way. We will devote ourselves to making the most of this experience in our future research and job-hunting activities.

Momoko Yamazaki, 3rd year student, Faculty of Sustainability Studies
We are grateful to have received the Excellence Award and the Jury's Special Award for this year's competition. Because of the Corona disaster, our discussions on writing were mainly conducted online. At first, we sometimes felt difficulties in communication, which is different from face-to-face meetings, but in the end, we all shared the same thoughts and activities. I would like to express my gratitude to Prof. Hasegawa and Prof. Takehara for their enthusiastic guidance until the end, to the seminar students for their support, and to the two students who worked together on the writing project.
