The theme of Yoshinaga's seminar for the 2019 academic year was to visit places of interest in Tokyo, write articles about them, and compile them into a booklet.

We also created an English version of the booklet, aiming to make it accessible to foreign visitors to Japan.

As a result, we published a booklet titled "Enjoy my Tokyo: A Tour of the Best Places in Tokyo" in January. It is available in Japanese and English. Three seminar students (3rd year) wrote the articles, took the photographs, did the layout, and created the cover illustration. This booklet is distributed at the Document Distribution Corner on the first floor of the Ouchiyama Building on the Ichigaya Campus.

We would like to thank Prof. Shamik Chakraborty for proofreading the English version. We would like to take this opportunity to thank him.

After the seminar activities

Over the past year, through making the booklet and walking around the city, I was able to learn many good things about Tokyo that I had previously learned only by going back and forth from the university. Thank you very much for your support over the past year.

(Thank you very much for your support over the past year.)

There were many things I learned through Mr. Yoshinaga's workshop. In the booklet-making process, I learned how difficult it is to think of text, how to show and combine photos, and what is necessary to make a book, such as the back cover and the table layout. By making the booklets from scratch by ourselves, we were able to experience a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. As well as making the booklet, I gained a lot of knowledge while walking around the town. I was able to learn the meaning of the stones placed at the three-way junctions, the origin of place names, and why stores are located there, all of which have their reasons. I think we were able to cooperate with the other two members of the study group and work together in a way that we could utilize each other's strengths. I am very glad that I was able to enjoy the activities of the study group for one year with Mr. Yoshinaga, Ms. Mano, and Mr. Shinagawa.

When Professor Yoshinaga approached me in class, I thought a city walk sounded like fun and applied to join the seminar. Through this city walk, I was able to learn about the neighborhoods around my school and places in Tokyo that I had never been to, and my view of the city changed. When I decided to create a booklet as a summary, at first I could not come up with a concrete image. However, especially in the fall semester, I began working on the booklet in earnest and realized how difficult it was to create. I believe that the booklet I created this time was completed with the cooperation of many people, including Dr. Shamik and Mr. Moriwaki of the printing company. The experience in this seminar was very practical, which was a valuable experience for me as I had been used to lectures and seminars sitting at a desk most of the time.
