Three books that influenced the formation of myself.

Kitaro Nishida, A Study of the Good (Iwanami Bunko)

When I was still in my teens, I was looking at the snowy landscape of my hometown and became addicted to the swamp of what beauty is. What rescued me from that was this book, which was the first to verbalize "nothingness.

Kajii Kanjiro, The Graduates (Shincho Bunko)

Such a beastly sensitivity! Each piece is short and describes an everyday life, but it opens up a whole new landscape. This collection of short stories has been called "a miracle in the history of Japanese literature.

Steve Erickson's "The Journey of the Black Clock" (Fukutake Bunko)

A man writes pornographic novels for Hitler. The story of the protagonist, who lives in two different time-spaces, aggressively reveals the chaos of the modern world.

I was so moved by the sentence "I write" in the novel that I started writing novels myself.

Three books I want the young people who will support the future to read.

Ken Kaiko, Opa! (Shueisha Bunko)

In this nonfiction book, writer Ken Kaiko takes on the challenge of fishing in the Amazon. He played with the whole forest.

The jungle, the darkness, and the pirarucu disclose the secrets of the world. This is a super-exciting book of five rings by a writer who wrote, "To write is to walk across a field like a cliff.

Zeami's "Fushikaden" (Iwanami Bunko)

The author wrote, "To write is to walk like a cliff in the field." "If you keep a secret, it will bloom," "Never forget your first love," "Practice makes perfect, but be aware of your feelings. ...... The book on performance theory by Zeami, the great master of Noh, is also a book of life instructions.

It is said that the president of Japanet Takata also reads this book. The secret of success is here.

Eugen Herrigel's "Japanese Archery" (Iwanami Bunko)

If you are asked abroad, "What is Japanese culture? If you are asked abroad, "What is Japanese culture? The book is a generous presentation of the deepest essence of Japanese culture based on Zen, with Kyudo at its core.

What is the meaning of "Do not hit the target"? Now you too can become a master.

Three books related to the academic field that I would like you to read

Kitamura Torutani, Kitamura Torutani Selected Works (Iwanami Bunko)

The poet, the founder of modern Japanese literature, deepened his contemplation of the inner workings of the human mind. His "Theory of Internal Life" is a masterpiece.

The spiritual adventure in search of the source of art is quite risky, but thanks to Toruoya, we have a valuable route to climb. Beyond that is us.

Junichiro Tanizaki, "In-ei reisan" (In-ei reisan) (Chuko bunko)

Hidden by the luminosity of modernity. That is where the secrets of the world lie. and the great writer roams the shadows and darkness with maniacal strokes.

Although the essays have a rather high perverted index, you realize that literature is actually the optics of darkness. Awe-inspiring.

Toshihiko Izutsu, Consciousness and Essence (Iwanami Bunko)

The depths of the mind. The subconscious. Further down. Araya.

This book is an attempt to descend into this non-verbal phase and open a new door of perception.

In other words, the truth of the world is discovered through a mystical contemplation of the unknown possibilities of human beings. A marvelous book.

What reading means to you

Good, evil, right, wrong, and impermanence. We want to look into the unfathomable depths of human nature and be overwhelmed by it.
