Eligibility for use
The Hosei University Ichigaya Library is open to those who meet the following requirements.
(1) Must be a resident of Chiyoda Ward and in possession of a valid Chiyoda Ward Library borrowing ticket.
(2) Must be 18 years of age or older (however, high school students are not allowed to register)
(3) Not using the library for profit-making purposes.
- However, students are not allowed to use the facilities of Tama and Koganei libraries. Students may request and use materials from the library collections.
User registration and renewal procedures (cashless payment only)
First time user registration
First-time users must bring the following documents and fill out the prescribed application form at the Ichigaya Library 1st floor counter to complete the user registration procedure. A library card will be issued. The initial registration fee is 1,000 yen (cashless payment only).
(A) Proof of address, name, and age (driver's license, My number card, passport, etc.)
(B) Chiyoda Ward Library lending card
Renewal/Reissue
The library card is valid only for the current fiscal year and must be renewed every fiscal year. If you wish to continue using the library, you will need to renew your card each fiscal year. When renewing, please bring the same documents (A) and (B) above as those used for the initial registration. The renewal fee is 500 yen.
- If you wish to have a photocopy reissued due to loss or damage, please ask at the counter of Ichigaya Library. Re-issue fee is 500 yen.
How to enter the library
When entering the library, please pass your library card through the entrance gate on each floor. If you have any questions about how to use the card, please call the staff at the counter.

Please check the library schedule at the top of the library website.
- Due to the university's regular examination period, the library is not available in July and January.
About Hosei University's Collections
You can search the Hosei University Library's holdings through the Hosei University Book Catalog (OPAC).
Materials Available
You can browse books, magazines, newspapers, and other paper materials held by the library.
Inaccessible Materials
The following materials are not available.
- Online databases, e-books, e-journals
- Microforms
- CD-ROMs
- Use of the Internet
- A letter of introduction from a public library or your library is required to use rare and semi-precious books.
Borrowing from outside the library
- Number of books to be checked out: Up to 10 books
- Borrowing period: 2 weeks
- However, if a book is reserved by a student or faculty member of the University, the user may be asked to return it immediately.
- Newspapers, journals, bulletins, and government publications are available for reading in the library only.
Return
Please be sure to return all borrowed materials to the circulation desk by the due date. When the library is closed, please return materials to the bookbox located at the entrance. You can also return materials by postal mail with a record of delivery, such as Yu-pack (postal parcel) or courier service (regular mail is not acceptable). Please write "Returned books are in the mail" and send to the following address. Please note that you are responsible for shipping costs.

Penalties
If books are returned after the due date, the library may take measures such as suspension of use or deactivation of the card.
- Please note that in case of loss of materials, you will be required to pay for the actual materials.
Photocopying
Only library materials may be photocopied within the scope of the copyright law.
Other Notes
- The purpose of the Hosei University Library is to support the education and research of students and researchers. Please be considerate so as not to interfere with other users' learning and research.
- We will not respond to requests to check holdings by phone, fax, or e-mail.
- Please refrain from making direct inquiries to other libraries (Tama, Koganei) and research institutes.
- Please refrain from entering the campus by car.
- Children are not allowed to enter the library.
- Please take care of your valuables by yourself.
- Please follow the instructions of the librarian when the buzzer sounds at the exit.
- Eating and drinking are prohibited inside the library except in designated areas.
- Smoking is permitted in designated areas.
- The library may not be used for any other purposes, including meetings.
- Learning Commons and Guidance Room are not available.
- The Database Corner is not available.
