Notices

Hosei University Library has a large collection of eBooks. You can read many eBooks using your own smartphone or PC by connecting to wireless LAN access points located around campus on campus or via VPN connection off-campus. Please make use of the e-books as they are useful for your studies and research.

E-book User's Guide (Web version)

Introduction

  • If you want to use e-books on campus, please connect to "hosei-wifi".
    (?) hosei-wifi
    A wireless LAN connection service that can be received from wireless LAN access points located throughout campus
    Integrated Authentication Enter your ID/password to authenticate

  • If you wish to use e-books from off-campus, such as from home or while commuting to school, you need to set up a VPN connection.
    (?) VPN (Virtual Private Network)
    You can connect to the university network via the Internet from off-campus, such as your home or when you are out of the office,
    to use services that are normally available only within the university network from off-campus.

How to search e-books

Basic (How to search from OPAC)

  • Let's take a look at eBooks for now!
  • You have a specific theme or subject you want to read.
  1. From the library homepage, click "Search the Library Catalog (OPAC) Top"

  2. Click "Advanced Search
  3. Check "E-books" in the "Materials" category, enter keywords, and click "Search".

  4. From the list of search results, click the "URL" of the material you want to read.
  5. Click "Browse" on the screen. (The specifications of the screen differ depending on the site.
    e.g.) For KinoDen, click "Start Browsing".

Caution
  • Please read the following precautions when using e-books.
  • The number of people who can access an e-book at the same time is set depending on the e-book.
    If someone else is browsing, please leave the library and try again.
  • When you finish browsing, please click "Exit" or close the screen to end your use.

  1. From the library homepage, click "Online Databases (E-Database) Top"

  2. Click "Login" at the top of the screen, and enter your Integrated Authentication ID or Library Card ID to log in.

  3. Click "Read eBooks" from the "By Purpose" tab.

  4. A list of databases and sites where you can read e-books will appear. Check the "Contents" and click on the "Database name (blue part)".

  5. The e-book provision site will open. Search by keywords or click on the book title (screen specifications differ depending on the provision site)

  2. You can search by various criteria such as "Subject", "Title/ISSN/ISBN", "Volume/Issue/Page", "DOI/PubMed ID", etc.

    One of the largest e-book platforms in Japan specializing in academic books provided by Maruzen Yushodo.

  • ProQuest Ebook Central ProQuest Ebook Central
    A foreign book Ebook platform provided by ProQuest, the world's largest database vendor in the United States.
    It contains more than 1.8 million high-quality academic eBooks collected from academic publishers and university presses around the world.
    It has a full range of convenient functions to strongly support users' research and study, including search, online browsing, download, bookshelf, citation, and marker highlighting.
