How to Apply for a Teaching License

To obtain a teaching license, students must obtain a bachelor's degree from Hosei University and earn the required credits in the teaching program. However, licenses are not awarded by the university, but by those who have completed the requirements, who apply to the board of education of the respective prefecture, which is the awarding authority, and are awarded after an examination. There are two ways to apply for a license: a batch application or an individual application.

2. batch application

In this method, the university collects all applicants for a teaching license and applies to the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education.
Students who wish to obtain a teaching license at the same time as graduation should choose the batch application method. This application is essential for those who will begin teaching in April after graduation. A batch application requires a series of procedures, so please pay attention to the bulletin board and do not miss the deadline. If you fail to complete the batch application process in time, you will be required to apply individually. Those who wish to graduate in September are not eligible for the batch application, so please apply individually.

3. individual application

After graduation, each student applies for a teaching license at the prefectural board of education where the student's current address is located. If you have the requirements, you can apply at any time, except for the exempted period. Since you may lose the requirement if the license law is revised, we recommend that you apply as soon as possible after graduation. Please note that the application form differs from prefectural board of education to prefectural board of education, so please check the website of each board of education before applying.
