Literature and Culture of German-speaking Countries, History of Japanese-German Cultural Exchange, Representational Culture
Seminar or Research Theme
◆Research Themes: Representational Culture (Pop Culture Theory, Politics of Representation), Cultural Studies of Song and Music, Aesthetic Theory (Receptive Aesthetics, Hermeneutics, etc.), Cultural Theory (Media Theory, etc.) ◆Seminar: Seminar in Representational Culture (Pop Culture/Popular Music Genealogy)
Seminar: ・Presentation practice and discussion are emphasized in the seminar. In the spring semester, we will have "research presentations" and discussions on the themes of "my favorite (music of my soul)" and "history of popular music"; in the fall semester, we will have "individual presentations" based on our own research themes, and write reports based on those presentations.
Another important theme of this seminar is "structural analysis and observation of language communication. It seems that today's society places a great deal of importance on "individuality," and yet it is not uncommon for people's words about their hobbies to come under fire on social networking sites, is it? Since it is a small seminar, discussions range from casual chitchat to research presentations, and we feel free to talk about anything. For those who want to be able to express their own opinions in front of others, this is good practice. I think this is a good place to practice for those who want to be able to express their opinions in front of others.
In the "Study of Myself," many of the students work on analyzing various music scenes and genres, artists and fandoms, and various discourses exchanged over "guesses".
◆Major subjects: German language courses, German language application, culture of German-speaking countries, visual images and literature, exercise in representational culture, etc.
◆Fieldwork: Traditionally, we have all gone to SUMMER SONIC (Tokyo).
However, from FY2024 onward, we are planning to change the plan to "going to music festivals and live concerts on your own or on a voluntary basis".

When, how, and what kind of facts should each party allege and what kind of evidence should be submitted during the trial process of a main case in a civil lawsuit? Such issues are the basic research topics. In relation to such a theme, I once discussed "the role of parties regarding the collection of case materials" with reference to the so-called "case clarification administration theory" in (West) Germany and Japan (Kyushu University Law Review, No. 52), and "the party-based trial structure of civil litigation" focusing on the nature of issue formation procedures (Journal of Civil Procedure, No. 38). Journal of Civil Procedure No. 38). The way the parties' activities of claiming and proving their claims in the trial process of the main proceedings of civil lawsuits should be. I would like to continue to deepen my individual and specific research on such topics and publish the results of such research when the opportunity arises.

Francophone literature (especially Caribbean Sea literature, Haitian-Quebec immigrant literature), Postcolonial theory, Melancholy
Seminar or Research Theme
◆Research Theme: To study language arts in multilingual and multicultural societies, especially in Francophonie, and to elucidate measures for coexistence and resolution of conflicts among multiple languages and cultures ◆Seminar: Seminar in Language and Culture (Language and Culture of Francophonie)
◆Introduction: In this seminar, students will read a book or watch a video on language and culture in the French-speaking countries (francophonie), setting a different region each semester (however, proficiency in French is not assumed). In the reading sessions, students will be given a book at the beginning of each semester, and will be assigned to present their resumes and make a presentation every week. For video viewing, students will view video works related to the region and culture in question (sometimes not all of them) and discuss the content and format of the video works as time permits.
In addition, as individual presentations, each seminar student will be asked to select his/her own research theme and report on his/her research plan and actual research based on that theme, which will be discussed by all seminar students. The students are given detailed guidance on how to write a research plan (especially the "Introduction" section of the paper), how to conduct a literature survey, how to examine methodologies, and what to pay attention to in actual analysis (how to refer to and cite, etc.). If the class time is not sufficient, we also arrange time for private tutoring and other instruction. While beginning this actual writing process, students will also consider whether or not to write a final thesis (if they do not write a thesis, they will have a shorter final report).
In addition to these research and study activities in the seminar, we have been going out to dinner and having seminar camps with the seminar students, though irregularly. In all cases, we have tried to choose places related to French-speaking countries as much as possible. Although we do not hold a seminar camp every year, we are able to decide the destination based on the wishes of the seminar students (we once went to the Tomioka Silk Mill).
We are open to any theme as long as it is related to France, so if you are interested, please come and talk to us at seminar information sessions and other opportunities.
◆Major courses: French as a third language, The world of French, Cultures of French-speaking countries IV (offered every other year), North American culture (Quebec course), Language and culture seminar, etc.
