Introduction of winners of awards and commendations for research and educational activities in 2019

Since fiscal year 2015, Hosei University has held the "Awards and Recognition Celebration for Research and Educational Activities" to congratulate faculty members who have received awards and recognition at academic conferences.
This year, from the perspective of preventing the spread of novel coronavirus infection, we have decided not to hold the celebration; however, here we would like to introduce the faculty members who received awards and recognitions and their research in FY2019.

Please note that this page is planned in conjunction with the feature articles that will appear in the October 2020, November/December 2020, and January/February 2021 issues of Hosei, our public relations magazine.

A summary of each article will be published in Hosei. Details are also available on the branding site "Hosei Fronesis".

Message from the President] To the Recipients of FY2019 Awards and Commendations

Congratulations to all of you!

In FY2019, many of our faculty members received awards and recognitions in their respective fields. Some faculty members received multiple awards. Once again, we recognized the high level and depth of research and creativity of our faculty.

University faculty members are able to exercise their abilities and creativity to the fullest within the context of "academic freedom" and "freedom of expression. The image of university faculty members who sincerely enjoy their work, spare no effort, refine their talents, and contribute to society by being recognized in their respective fields will be engraved in the hearts of students, who will surely become important role models for them. In this sense, good researchers and creators are good teachers who can pass on the ideas and experiences they have cultivated through their research and creation.

The University's dissertation productivity ranks very high among private universities (6th among universities in Japan, "Nihon Keizai Shimbun, June 4, 2018"). This means that we continue to make research efforts under difficult circumstances. The University also has a history of accepting not only researchers but also outstanding writers and critics as faculty members since about 100 years ago, when the Pre-College (liberal arts) program began. This is another characteristic that the University should continue to cherish.

The connection between activities in society and research and educational activities at the university is very encouraging for researchers. We will continue this system of knowing, celebrating, and publicizing the awards and honors received by our faculty members.

I have great expectations that all of the award winners will continue to deepen their research and creativity.

Message from the Executive Trustee for Academic Support Division] Disseminating Research Strengths and Educating Students

An important mission of the university is research and education, and many of our researchers have received awards from various academic organizations, including academic societies. I believe that this is the result of each professor's diligent efforts in his or her field of interest, which have been rewarded with steady accumulation day after day. Congratulations indeed!

Since the University guarantees the freedom to choose research themes and the space and time to conduct research activities, I hope that many more researchers will continue to conduct excellent research, disseminate their research findings to society, and enhance the research brand of Hosei University.

In terms of education, there are various fields of study, including arts and sciences, and there are many ways to approach education. I hope that the next generation of young researchers will grow and achieve great results by observing the dedication of our professors to their research and the research process.
