Hello everyone! I am Rion Ito, Nao Kashima, Tsubaki Koshihara, and Ryu Yokota from the Public Relations Committee of the Faculty of Business Administration. With the start of the fall semester, I am sure that all of you are busy with your classes, clubs, part-time jobs, and so on. Do you know about the university staff, the "behind-the-scenes helpers" who support your student life?
We interviewed Mr. Kazushige Takahashi, a graduate of the Faculty of Business Administration, who is now an employee of Hosei University. We asked him about how he became interested in becoming a university employee, what he finds rewarding about the job, his experiences as a student, and his message to students, so please take a look!
The main reason I decided to become a university employee was because I took a voluntary mass communication course (hereafter referred to as "JIMAS") while I was enrolled in the Faculty of Business Administration. I spent my first year at the university without any purpose. However, around the time of my sophomore year, I began to think, "I can't continue to live my life without a goal.
That is when I came across Jishin Mass. Voluntary Mass is an extracurricular activity for students in their first through third year who wish to work in the mass media industry, and it includes practical activities such as inviting people who actually work in the mass media industry as lecturers. I decided to join because I wanted to be part of a circle of students who could inspire each other.
I saw my fellow students achieving their dreams up close and personal, and while it might be normal for me to want to follow in their footsteps, in my case, I felt how wonderful it was to have such an environment and how important it was for students to have opportunities and opportunities to learn and experience. And now I want to support the growth of students by becoming a university employee myself.
The most rewarding part of my job is being involved in the growth of students. At the law school where I was first assigned, I was in charge of administrative work related to coursework, grades, job hunting, etc. At the time, graduate students and I were both about the same age. At that time, graduate students and I were close in age, so we often talked whenever we met outside of the office window.
Currently, I work in a department called the Academic Affairs Division, where I have very little contact with students. However, I always feel that my work there is indirectly connected to the students, and this is what makes it worthwhile. Universities are not only educational institutions but also research institutions. One of our jobs is to create an environment in which it is easy for professors to conduct research, but it is also important for the university's brand power to be enhanced when the content of the research is shared and disseminated throughout the world. I am happy when I see Hosei University and its professors in newspapers and other media.
First of all, I feel that I was able to cultivate my communication skills through the voluntary mass. Through discussions among students, I think I gained the ability to verbalize my thoughts, convey them to others, and express them.
I also experienced several part-time jobs. Each job required different knowledge and skills, but I also acquired the ability to devise ways to create better results and environments on the spot. And I was able to interact with many working people and learn different values.
I also studied bookkeeping, which helped me become strong with numbers, and I feel that this has directly helped me in my current job.
In addition to classes and seminars, universities offer many other learning opportunities. However, I feel that there are many students who do not catch the information well because of the abundance of information.
I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the university and challenge yourself with what you are interested in. By coming into contact with many students and working adults through the things you are interested in, you will learn that there are many different values and gain a lot of knowledge and experience. It will surely become your food for thought.
I hope that you will enrich your university life with many experiences.
I have realized once again the importance of gaining a lot of experience during one's school years. I was touched by Mr. Takahashi's passionate desire to "create a place where students can play an active role," and I felt that I would like to actively utilize the various learning opportunities that the university has planned for me. I would be happy if I could grow myself by taking on challenges from things I am interested in, meeting fellow students, and coming into contact with many different values. (Rion Ito)
Through this interview, I learned that in order to find what I want to do, it is important to cultivate many experiences and be exposed to various values. From now on, I would like to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the university, challenge various things, and engage in friendly competition. (Nao Kashima)
I wanted to become a person who can accumulate many experiences, meet a variety of people, and think about things from diverse perspectives. I would like to enrich my university life by taking an interest in things around me and being proactive. (Ryuwa Yokota)
We heard from Ms. Takahashi that she became a staff member because she wanted to create a place where students could grow,
I realized that students are supported by many people in their daily lives, even if indirectly and invisibly. (Tsubaki Koshihara)
Thank you very much, Mr. Takahashi, for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your valuable story with us.
