1. please give us a brief self-introduction. 2.

My name is Mitsuru Katagiri, born in 1981 in Kyoto Prefecture. I attended university in Tokyo, where I studied microeconomics. I belonged to a ballroom dance club and have participated in competitions.

After graduating from university, I worked at the Bank of Japan and took advantage of the in-house study abroad program to study in the U.S. for two and a half years to earn a doctorate in economics. after working at the Bank of Japan until 2016, I spent three years working as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an international organization in Washington, D.C.

I arrived at Hosei University in April of this year, and this year I am in charge of seminars as well as teaching "Theory of Finance," "Introductory Seminar," and "Introductory Foreign Language Management" classes. In the seminar I am in charge of, I mainly deal with financial markets, corporate finance, and other finance-related topics. From next year, I will also be in charge of GBP (Global Business Program) courses. I have experience working in the business world, so I would like to make use of that in my classes and teach practical matters that will be useful in society.

My areas of specialization are monetary policy, macroeconomics, and corporate finance. I began studying monetary policy in parallel with my work after I started working, and I have been researching the effects of raising and lowering interest rates and the effects of policy on the trading of stocks and government bonds. In addition, in corporate finance, I analyze the relationship between debt and equity from a macro perspective. So far, I have mainly dealt with how interest rates are determined in the government bond market. In the future, I intend to study the exchange market and how the inflation rate is determined.

2. why did you decide to become a university faculty member?

I wanted to devote more energy to my research than ever before. While working at the Bank of Japan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), I have conducted research on finance, finance and economics as an extension of my work, and I realized that I was better suited to be an ecomomist (researcher). However, balancing work at a financial institution with research inevitably imposed many restrictions on my time, and I felt that I wanted more time to devote to my research. That is why I chose the option of becoming a researcher at a university.

3. why did you choose to Faculty of Business Administration Hosei University's Faculty of Business Administration?

I chose Hosei University because it was one of the private universities that focused on global education. The deciding factor was that Hosei University is more advanced than other private universities in its attitude toward internationalization, as evidenced by the fact that it has been selected as a "Super Global University" and has a large number of international students. I thought I would be able to fully utilize my own experience of working and studying abroad.

4. Finally, please give some words of advice to students.

Broaden your horizons. I want you to learn many things not only by studying, but also by participating in club activities and circles, and by working part-time. This is because once you become a member of society, you will have more restrictions on your time, work, and relationships, and it will be harder to do these things. Please use the time you are given without regrets. From my experience, I recommend studying abroad. The experience of spending a lot of time abroad has a huge impact on broadening your horizons.

In addition to the above, we were able to hear many interesting stories about his memories of his school days and the classes he is currently taking.
Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to cooperate with us for this interview. We look forward to working with you in the future!
