  • Apr 05, 2023
Notices

Hosei University opened the Hosei University Social Innovation Center (SIC) on its Tama Campus on April 1, 2023.

Located on the border of Machida City and Hachioji City in Tokyo and Sagamihara City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Hosei University's Tama Campus has been advocating "symbiosis between the local community and the university" and "openness to the community" since its establishment in 1984. The center has been operating for the past 10 years.

In the 10 years since then, the center has taken on the challenge of solving various social issues in urban, rural, and mountainous areas, and numerous students have learned and grown through revitalization of apartment complexes and shopping districts, revitalization of local communities, disaster countermeasures, inheritance of traditional culture, effective utilization of abandoned farmland, and realization of a circular economy, The activities have begun to produce tangible results. (For some examples of recent activities, please refer to Reference Information (1).

In order to further evolve our efforts and activities, we have established the "Hosei University Social Innovation Center (SIC)". The SIC will take over and develop the functions of the existing Tama Regional Exchange Center and the Tama Volunteer Center.

Transition of facilities open to the community at Hosei University's Tama Campus

Features of the SIC

The SIC is characterized by the fact that it is a community-based and student-based facility, centering on the various student-led collaborative projects in the neighborhood that have been undertaken at the Tama Center for Community Interaction.
In the future, the SIC will further strengthen these characteristics while promoting the following initiatives.

  • By strengthening the connection with educational activities at the university, we will proactively work to develop human resources who can initiate and take charge of social innovation in the community and society.
  • We will strengthen cooperation among the tri-sector (universities, local communities, and external for-profit and non-profit organizations), and foster and support projects that lead to solutions to social issues through the creation of social innovations by students, faculty, and staff working with diverse entities.
  • The SIC will actively engage in a variety of public events, including "CAFE" activities in which diverse guests from inside and outside the university are invited to discuss the SIC's projects, and create a richer network of knowledge, information, and people on and outside the campus.

For details, please refer to Reference Information (2) and the SIC website.
Information about the opening project (CAFE) will be posted soon.
Please look forward to future initiatives at Hosei University Tama Campus.
