Hosei University Area Research Center and Shizuoka Railway Company Launch "Demonstration Experiment on Disaster Prevention Information Environment Using Mobile Battery Stands

Hosei University's Center for Area Studies (Project Leader: Professor KAMIYAMA Hajime, Graduate School of Policy and Creative Studies, Hosei University), together with Shizuoka Railway Company, Shizuoka City, and Okura Corporation, has launched the "Demonstration Experiment for the Development of Information Environment for Disaster Prevention and Response" using mobile battery chargers (stands).

In this experiment, mobile battery stands will be installed at train stations and hotel lobbies, and the LCD screens (digital signage) attached to the stands will deliver disaster prevention publicity videos and information on local events and corporate advertisements by Shizuoka City during normal times, and emergency information from the local government during times of disaster.
The project will run for approximately one year to gather knowledge for realizing a safe and secure local community as an example of "phase-free" approach, in which goods and services used in daily life are utilized in the event of a disaster.

◆Overview
Objective: To gather knowledge on how to improve the information environment against disasters
2. Date of installation: September 7, 2022 (Wednesday) - for approximately one year
3. Location: Shizuoka Railway Shimizu Line (Shin-Shizuoka Station, Kusanagi Station, Shin-Shimizu Station), Nihondaira Ropeway (Nihondaira Station), Shizutetsu Hotel Pregio (Shizuoka Station North Branch, Shizuoka Station South Branch)
4. Installation equipment: Mobile battery stands (2 at each location (Japanese version and foreign language version), mobile batteries (6 per stand)

About the project leader, Professor KAMIYAMA Hajime
Professor KAMIYAMA Hajime's background includes a career in the private sector, local government (as a manager of a special ward in Tokyo), and Hosei University, and he is widely involved in research on the theme of "urban development. In our laboratory, we take a multifaceted approach in order to demonstrate "city planning" from an interdisciplinary perspective, and the research themes of our students range from citizen participation, citizen collaboration, local community, multicultural conviviality, local revitalization, tourism, disaster prevention, landscape design, urban environment, and more. Recently, he has been involved in the formulation of the basic concept and basic plan for the construction of a new government building in Edogawa Ward and the formulation of the Kawamachi Development Plan for Komae City as a committee chairman.
